1. Who we are and scope
Stoic Intent ("Stoic Intent," "we," "us," or "our") is the developer and operator of the Stoic Intent app and this website. This Privacy Policy applies to information handled through the app, website, and support communications.
Stoic Intent is a private daily reflection tool. The current version does not create user accounts and does not provide cloud sync.
2. Information we handle
Journal and practice data stored on your device
The app stores information you choose to enter, including:
- your selected practice goal and app preferences;
- morning intentions, control reflections, and selected virtues;
- evening reflections and completion status;
- practice dates, streak information, and assigned content; and
- reminder settings and a limited subscription-status snapshot.
This information is stored locally in an encrypted SQLCipher database. Its encryption key is kept using the secure storage provided by your operating system. Stoic Intent does not upload journal text, intentions, reflections, exports, exact reminder times, or your local practice history to Firebase Analytics or Amplitude.
Local notifications
If you enable reminders, the app schedules notifications on your device. Notification text is generic and does not include your journal entries or intentions.
Product analytics
We use Firebase Analytics and Amplitude to understand whether core flows work and how the product is used. Analytics may include:
- app launches and onboarding completion;
- practice, reminder, paywall, purchase, restore, and export events;
- content identifiers, selected enum values, and success states;
- app version, operating system, device model, language, country or approximate region, network information, IP address, and pseudonymous identifiers generated by our providers.
Our analytics interface only accepts a defined set of event names and properties. It does not accept free-form journal text. We do not use analytics for targeted advertising or cross-app tracking.
Crash and diagnostic information
We use Firebase Crashlytics to identify crashes and reliability problems. Crash reports may include stack traces, app and operating system versions, device model, crash time, technical state, and a pseudonymous installation identifier. Crash reporting is enabled in release builds and is not used to collect journal entries, intentions, reflections, exports, or other free-form practice text.
Subscriptions and transactions
RevenueCat helps us manage subscription status and premium access. It may process a pseudonymous app user identifier, product identifiers, purchase and renewal status, subscription dates, storefront, and transaction information supplied by Apple or Google. Payment credentials are handled by the applicable app store and are not received by Stoic Intent.
Exports and support information
When you export data, the app creates a temporary JSON or Markdown file and opens your device's share sheet. You choose where it is sent. If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, screenshots, app version, and diagnostic details. Please do not send journal text unless it is necessary for your request.
Website information
This website does not use advertising cookies or website analytics. Hosting infrastructure may create short-lived technical logs containing an IP address, request time, requested page, browser or user-agent information, and security events so the site can be delivered and protected.
3. How and why we use information
We use information only as reasonably necessary to:
- provide local practices, reminders, exports, and premium access;
- maintain security, prevent fraud, diagnose failures, and restore purchases;
- measure product performance and improve features;
- answer support, privacy, and legal requests; and
- comply with applicable law and enforce our Terms.
Depending on where you live, our legal bases may include performing our contract with you, your consent, compliance with legal obligations, and our legitimate interests in operating and improving a safe and reliable product.
5. Storage, retention, and security
Local practice data remains on your device until you delete it in the app, remove the app, or reset the device. Analytics and subscription information is retained according to our provider settings and only for as long as needed for the purposes described above. Support communications may be kept while a request is active and afterward when reasonably necessary for security, records, or legal obligations.
Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers are protected through contractual and legal safeguards.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your choices and rights
- Journal data: Export your entries in JSON or Markdown, or use Delete all local data in Settings.
- Notifications: Disable reminders in the app or revoke notification permission in device settings.
- Purchases: Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple App Store or Google Play account.
- Privacy requests: Depending on your location, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection regarding information associated with you.
Because the app does not require an account and analytics identifiers are pseudonymous, we may need limited information that reasonably verifies and locates the relevant record. See our Data deletion page for instructions.
7. Children
Stoic Intent is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Where local law requires parental consent, a minor may use the service only with that consent.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product, providers, or law changes. We will post the updated version here and change the effective date.
